It is always a frustrating thing for Indians to book a tatkal ticket in IRCTC website. There is a high chance of a failure in ticket booking especially when doing the payment. Both the Indian railways and IRCTC have to invest more on this website to make it better. Here I am sharing experiences in ticket booking through IRCTC website:
I still remember when I registered an account in IRCTC website. It might be 5 years back, I tried registering in IRCTC website and gave my mobile number. Unfortunately I didn't get the OTP to my mobile. I tried so many times on the site for getting the OTP and all went vein. I can't use this mobile number for registering again into IRCTC.
After a year or so, I took a new mobile number and tried registering in IRCTC website. This time I was success and got an account. The bad thing here is after a couple of months I forgot my password and answer to the security question. I am not able to reset the password. Again I can't use this mobile number for creating a new account in IRCTC. I gave up registering in IRCTC website and started using my friends login for booking tickets.
A year back, I took a new sim and again registered in IRCTC website. After registering in the site, I changed my password. When I tried to login with my new password, IRCTC throw an error as invalid username/password. Huh, Again I reset my password and using that password only. From that day onward I am using my own username for IRCTC Login and for booking tickets.
My failure percentage of booking tickets is more when compared to success. Most of the Indians had bad experiences with IRCTC. Here are some suggestions to both Indian Railways and IRCTC to Improve the chances of tatkal ticket booking:
1. IRCTC should move to cloud services and use sophisticated hardware.
2. It should improve handling the payment transactions efficiently.
